About
“ Circularity is a key component of what makes forests inherently sustainable. And in the same way, circularity is a key component of what makes businesses inherently sustainable. “
Hortus Fibra
The Hortus Fibra Project began with the idea of taking back ownership on the material we use for making textile products. We wish to radically change the way we purchase our yarns to weave and knit, and therefor started this journey in mapping all possible plants that can be used to make fabrics, carpets, mats, hats, shoes and so on.
The digital garden Hortus Fibra is a platform on which we share information about different plants that can be used either to extract fibers or others that can directly be implemented into a product. With this we hope you will look at your direct environment in another way.
We are currently working on a Fiber-Plant-Guide which can be downloaded via our website or if you wish to get a physical copy, ordered by email. In this Fiber-Plant-Guide you learn about the most common used plant fibers, where they naturally grow, how the fibers can be extracted and which products were normally made with them.
Our long-term dream is to establish a physical garden in which we grow (regional) fiber plants, serving as an educational tool for hobbyists, designers, and students. We hope to harvest our own fibers to produce small-scale home goods.
Next to building this community we are working on our first prototype of a Carpet, which is made from locally sourced plant fibers.
Our homebase is currently close to the Genova, in the Italian region of Liguria. Next to operating with our local community here, we parallel aim to establish a Hortus Fibra community in the region of Bern, Switzerland.
Get in touch with us, if you would like to start your own Hortus Fibra Community in your own hometown.
Community aiming to re-establish the connection with our immediate natural enviroment nature.
